Second Round Results

SEA ISLAND, Ga. – The Vanderbilt men’s golf team had a stellar second round on Saturday at the SEC Championship in Sea Island, Ga., and is in a tie for seventh with Arkansas heading into the final round Sunday. The Commodores shot a second-round 282 and have a two-round total of 577 (295-282).

Junior Charlie Ewing had the team’s low round of the day with a two-under par, 68, and freshman Zack Jaworski once again played a solid round for the Commodores, shooting an even-par 70. Jaworski is Vanderbilt’s leader for the tournament with a 141 (71-70) and is in a tie for 13th.

“I am really proud of how all the guys fought all day long and we played really well,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “We have played well both days, but the difference today was that we finished strong. We talked about how we were going to remain disciplined and stick to our game-plan and that’s what we did. Tomorrow is going to be a very challenging day with the weather and I know the guys will once again be excited to have the opportunity to compete. Our focus need to continue to be on the right things and remain resilient.”

Vanderbilt also counted a pair of two-over 72’s from sophomores Hunter Stewart and Ben Fogler. Sophomore Jordan Janico was a shot back of the duo with a second-round 73.

South Carolina leads the tournament with a five-under par, 555 total (279-276), three strokes better than second-place Alabama. The Gamecocks’ Caleb Sturgeon remains the individual leader at eight-under, 132 (65-67).

The final round of the tournament concludes on Sunday.
