HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Due to inclement weather Friday and a late start to their first round Saturday morning, the Vanderbilt men’s golf team had their second round cut short due to darkness on Saturday at the Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kansas, with the Commodores in 12th position at one-over par. Vanderbilt is currently five strokes back of the eight-team match-play cut line, with the conclusion of their second round and a third round still to play.
Vanderbilt’s five competitors made it through 11 to 14 holes of their second round and are currently even par in their second round. In their first round of play on Saturday, the Commodores shot a one-over par, 281.
Commodore junior Ben Fogler is leading the charge and currently sits at three-under par through 12 holes of his second round and is in a tie for 10th on the individual leader board. In his opening round, Fogler fired a team-best two-under, 68. Junior Hunter Stewart is at even-par for the tournament and has finished 11 holes of his second round, with junior Jordan Janico one-over through 13, sophomore Carson Jacobs two-over through 13, and senior Charlie Ewing five-over par through 14 holes of his second round.
Stanford leads the tournament and has completed its first two rounds at 12-under par, 548 (281-267), four strokes better than South Carolina, who has yet to begin its second round, and Alabama, who has completed two rounds with a total of 552 (274-278). There is a three-way tie for sixth after play on Saturday, with LSU, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State at four-under par. LSU and Oklahoma played with the Commodores and have finished 11 to 14 holes, while the Cowboys have yet to begin their second round. The top eight teams will advance to match play on Tuesday, with the top 40 individuals competing for an individual national championship on Monday, weather permitting.
Cameron Wilson of Stanford leads all individuals with a two-round score of six-under, 134, which was boosted by a second-round 63. South Carolina’s Will Starke is also at six-under par, but has yet to tee off in his second round.
The Commodores will continue their second round first thing in the morning on Sunday at 7 a.m. Their tee time for the third round will begin at 4:40 p.m. CT.
