CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico – The number one-ranked Commodore men’s golf team finished the Querencia Cabo Collegiate in sixth place with a final score of 853 (294-280-279) on Tuesday in Los Cabos, Mexico. Senior Matthias Schwab led the way for Vanderbilt with a final total of 208 (74-68-66), which placed him 11th on the individual leader board.

Schwab carded six birdies and one bogey in his third round at the par-71, 6,928-yard Los Cabos Querencia en route to his 66 on Tuesday. Vanderbilt also counted three 71’s from junior Theo Humphrey, sophomore Patrick Martin, and sophomore John Augenstein to compile the Commodores’ five-under, 279, for the day.

“I love coming to this course and event because it gives you a great idea of where you are as a group,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “We learned a lot this week and I am super proud of how our guys fought. Obviously, we had a rough first round, but I really thought that the guys responded well the last two days. Matthias played another stellar final round today that lifted our team.”

Oklahoma State won the team championship with a final score of 823 (69-67-69), 10 shots better than second-place Baylor. Washington’s Corey Pereira won medalist honors with a nine-under par, 204 (70-67-67).

Vanderbilt next takes the course March 17-19 in Statesboro, Ga., at the Schenkel Invitational.

“I know the guys aren’t happy with where we are and we know we have to get better,” said Limbaugh. “It’s going to take all of us having higher standards for ourselves and for each other if we want to be the team I know we can be. That’s the exciting part, getting to climb that mountain together.”
