BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Vanderbilt men’s golf team finished the two-day, three-round Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate in seventh place with a final team score of 861 (287-293-281), with senior Charlie Ewing pacing the Commodore effort with a total of 213 (70-73-70), which tied him for 12th place on the individual leader board.

The Commodores posted their best single-round score of the tournament on Tuesday with a 281, counting Hunter Stewart’s 69, Ewing and Matthias Schwab’s 70, and a 72 from Jordan Janico. Zack Jaworski was only one stroke back of Janico with a third-round 73.

“Today was a character day for our team and we came out and showed a lot of resilience and grit,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “All five guys came out and fought hard and were in the round the entire day. Going forward, if we do the simple things correctly and our focus is where it needs to be, we are a good team.”

Alabama won the team crown with a final total of 829 (274-278-277), 16 strokes better than second-place Texas A&M. UAB’s Wilson McDonald won medalist honors with a total of 202 (65-67-70).

The Commodores return to the course on October 20-22 at another one of college golf’s most prestigious events, the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational in Windermere, Fla.
