MG: Dores ninth at Reunion

MADISON, Miss. — The Vanderbilt men’s golf team finished in ninth place in the 2010 Bancorp South Intercollegiate Tuesday at the Reunion Golf and Country Club.

Senior Hudson Johnson and junior Ryan Haselden both shot even-par in the third and final round to lead the Commodores. Johnson second-straight 72 helped the Longview, Texas native finish in a tie for 25th in the 75-man field. Haselden shaved six strokes off his second round score to end the week tied for 48th.

For the week, the low Commodore was sophomore Trey DelGreco. DelGreco narrowly missed his third Top 10 finish of the Spring after shooting a two-over 74 on Tuesday. The Birmingham product finished in a tie for 12th as one of only 16 players to shoot par or better for the week.

Freshman Will Snipes shot a three-over 75 in the third round to score for the first time this week. He finished in 67th place. Senior Chris Rockwell carded a six-over 78 on Tuesday. Rockwell had been at even-par entering the day, and finished in a tie for 40th position.

In the team competition, Vanderbilt was two strokes behind a seventh-place tie between UCF and South Alabama. North Florida took the team championship by one stroke over day one leader Florida. Host Ole Miss was 15 strokes back of the pace. Memphis was fourth, just six strokes shy of VU, with Louisiana Tech and Southern Mississippi tied for fifth.

Florida’s Tyson Alexander took individual medalist honors by a stroke over teammate Tim McKenney. The nearest competitor was four strokes back of the duo. Vanderbilt’s Adam Hofmann earned runner-up honors at the 2009 event. The Bancorp South Intercollegiate is Vanderbilt’s final regular season event for the 2009-10 season. The Commodores will have 10 days before competing in the 2010 Southeastern Conference Championships in Sea Island, Ga.

The Reunion Golf and Country Club played at Par 72 over 7,305 yards this week.
