Dores tied for fourth at Shoal Creek Invitational hosted by Graeme McDowell

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Vanderbilt men’s golf team is in a tie for fourth with an even-par score after play was suspended in the second round Monday afternoon due to thunderstorms in the area.  The Commodores, slated to play 36 holes at the Shoal Creek Country Club, finished their first round of play at four-over par, 292, and is currently four-under par in their second round with each player through 15 holes.

The second round will continue at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, with the final 18 holes following the completion of the second round.

Junior John Augenstein is the Vanderbilt leader after day one after shooting a two-under par, 70 in the first round and even par through 15 of the second round.  Senior Will Gordon is tied for 14th after a first-round 78 and a 6-under par total through 15 holes in the second round, with Gordon posting five birdies and an eagle on his card in his second round.  Senior Patrick Martin is in a tie for 21st after a two-over par 74 and a one-under total through 15, sophomore Harrison Ott is in a tie for 39th after a first-round 73 and a three-over total through 15, and freshman Michael Shears is in a tie for 61st after a 75 in the first round and a six-over par total through 15 of the second round.

“This is a good course and it got firm out there today which was challenging,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh.  “I thought John competed really well in the first round, which was big for our team. We made too many simple mistakes that kept us from having a better round and kind of kept us from keeping momentum. In my opinion, these mistakes come from losing focus or simply not focusing on the right things.  We are playing better in the second round and it’s important we come out in the morning and finish strong.”

Texas A&M leads the tournament with a six-under par total and has a one shot lead on North Florida.  Travis Trace of North Florida and Steven Fisk of Georgia Southern are the individual leaders with a six-under par score.

“My goal for tomorrow is for us to take a little step closer to being the team we know we can be,” said Limbaugh.  “I have confidence in this group, but it’s about playing to a standard and having high demands for yourself and for each other.”
