FRANKLIN, Tenn. – On the men’s side, the Commodores sit in fourth-place following the first day of play and posting a two-over 286.
“We got off to a good start in the fist round,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “I’m pleased how we handled ourselves today, and I’m pleased and proud of the guys. They’re putting in the work, and believing in what Coach Smith and I are telling them. I’m very big on our identity, how we carry ourselves on the golf course, and I was happy with their body language today. We were resilient today against adversity, and that was good to see.”
Charlie Ewing and Carson Jacobs posted the only under-par rounds for Vanderbilt as they both registered a two-under 69. Ewing and Jacobs will start the second round on Saturday morning sitting in a tie for sixth-place.
Zach Jaworski wrapped up an even-par round of 71 on Friday and currently sits in a tie for 15th place. To round out the team scoring, Jordan Janico posted a one-over 72, Ben Fogler a three-over 74 and Hunter Stewart a four-over 75.
Vanderbilt is well-represented on the individuals leaderboard as John Voetsch also posted an even-par round of 71. Spencer Ciesla recorded a three-over 74, Ryan Thornton a four-over 75, Mills Rendell a four-over 75 and Will Snipes a six-over 77 to wrap up the scoring for the Commodores.
“It was one day, and that’s all it was,” Limbaugh said. “We have to bring our best tomorrow, because that’s what it’s going to take each and every time out.”
Virginia’s Denny McCarthy recorded the round’s top score with a four-under 67.
Oklahoma sits atop the leaderboard in the team standings as the only team to post an under-par round (four-under 280).
