Men's Golf Travels To Olympia Fields

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. — The Vanderbilt men’s golf team will take part in its second tournament of the 2006 fall season this weekend, the 2006 Olympia Fields Country Club/Fighting Illini Invitational.

The 12-team field will play on the historic North Course (par 70, 7,205 yards), with 36 holes scheduled for Sunday and a final round of 18 holes on Monday.

First-year Head Coach Tom Shaw will travel to the event with the same five he played in the Commodores’ season-opening tournament in Dalton, Ga. Vanderbilt finished in the top half of the field at the Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic last week.

Sophomore Jon Curran finished in a tie for sixth place at minus-6, while freshman Hudson Johnson carded a four-under 212 to finish in a tie for 11th. Senior Luke List and juniors Brett Lange and Billy Whalen will also compete for the Commodores in Illinois.

List is familiar with Olympia Fields. He competed on the North Course during the United States Open in 2003, the summer before his freshman year at Vanderbilt.
