Men’s Golf to Jerry Pate Intercollegiate

        The Vanderbilt men’s golf team is off to <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = “urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags” />Birmingham for the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate Monday and Tuesday. The Commodores are coming off a solid second place finish two weeks ago in their own Mason Rudolph Championship.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = “urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office” />

         Coach Press McPhaul is taking a quintet that includes Brett Lange, Mark Donnell, Luke List, Joe Shirley and Lance Goodson, who is returning to his hometown.  Shirley, a sophomore from Marietta, Ga., is making his first tournament appearance of the fall, replacing Ben McClung in the lineup.

         

        Once again a talented field awaits the Commodores.  Twelve teams including Golf Week Magazine’s top rated Auburn, Oklahoma State (2), Georgia Tech (4) and Georgia (6) will compete.  Vanderbilt is No. 33 is the latest golfweek.com rankings.

       
         The tournament will be played on the Old Overton Club, a par 71 payout designed by Jerry Pate and Tom Fazio in 1993.  As per usual, 36 holes will be played Monday with 18 holes Tuesday.
