Men's Golf: Recap of Day Two at Carpet Capital

ROCKY FACE, Ga. — The Vanderbilt men’s golf team shot a five-over 294 in the second round of the three-day Carpet Capital Collegiate Saturday at The Farm Golf Club. With 18 holes left to play, the Commodores are tied for 13th place in the tournament’s 18-team field.

Freshman Hudson Johnson posted the team’s low score of the day, a one-under 71. The Longview, Texas, native heads into Sunday’s final round of play in a tie for 16th place at two- under.

Sophomore Jon Curran also stands at two- under for the tournament after carding an even-par round on Saturday. Junior Brett Lange shaved two strokes off his first round score, posting a three-over 75.

Senior Luke List also scored for the Commodores, carding a four-over round of 76. Junior Billy Whalen struggled in Saturday’s round, failing to make par on 10 holes.

Individually, North Carolina State’s Darren Blair holds a two-stroke lead over Clemson’s Vince Hatfield. In the team competition, Clemson shot eight-under on Saturday to take a three-stroke lead over day one leader Alabama. Florida, Tennessee, Georgia State and North Carolina State round out the top six.

The tournament field includes nine teams that closed the 2005-06 season in the nation’s Top 20, including No. 2 Georgia, No. 3 Florida and No. 4 Georgia Tech.
