NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Senior Luke List finished as the tournament runner-up Tuesday, helping lead the Vanderbilt men’s golf team to a fifth place finish at the Fighting Irish Gridiron Golf Classic at the Warren Golf Course.

Lamar’s Justin Harding took medalist honors, edging List and Notre Dame’s Cole Isban by one stroke. List, who teed off 30 minutes before his two closest rivals, held the lead in the clubhouse by one stroke before Harding birdied the 17th and 18th holes to capture the victory.

As a team, Lamar dominated the event wire-to-wire, winning by 29 strokes over Notre Dame. Baylor, Florida State and Vanderbilt rounded out the top five.

Behind List, sophomore Jon Curran also put up a nice showing at Notre Dame. Curran shot three identical rounds of 75 to finish in a tie for 17th place at 15-over par.

Senior Dos Goldsmith and junior John Ebert made their first appearances of the season for the Commodores. Goldsmith scored all three days, finishing in a tie for 37th place at plus-22.

The Commodores counted a 77 from freshman Hudson Johnson on Tuesday after he posted the team’s two highest scores on Monday. Ebert’s low round of the tournament was a 76 during Monday morning opening round.

Head Coach Tom Shaw’s squad returns home and will close out the 2006 fall season with the Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate, Oct. 22-24, at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn.
