FRANKLIN, Tenn. – After two rounds of play at the Mason Rudolph Championship, the Vanderbilt men’s golf teams sits in first place with a total score of four-under 564.8108315.jpeg

The Commodores came out of the clubhouse in a groove on Saturday morning as the team posted a six-under 278 round, which was by far the best of the day. The round of the day went to Hunter Stewart who finished with a six-under 65. Hunter now is in a tie for fifth-place at two-under 140.

“I hit my wedges well today and putted well,” said Stewart. “I got off to a good start with birdies on one and two, and made a long putt on eight. I hit it in the water on 10 and made bogey, and walked to the 11th tee pretty frustrated, but I hit it in there close and made another birdie. I put a string together there at the end of the round, and just had it going.

“Coach has been hammering home wedges, and we’ve been getting a lot better at them, so I was really comfortable my wedge game today.”

Fellow Commodore, Charlie Ewing also sits in a tie for fifth at two-under 140. Ewing posted an even 71 on Saturday.

Rounding out the results for team play, Jordan Janico is tied for 11th at even par 142, following a one-under 70 on Saturday. Ben Fogler and Zach Jaworski are tied for 25th at four-over 146. Fogler had a second round one-over 72, while Jaworski posted a four-over 75.

“It was a good round,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “I told them last night when we were talking, that we have prepared well for this event. The guys have played well, and they expect to play well. That’s just a decision that we have to make, that deep down, we have to expect to play well. I told Hunter I expected him to play well. Sixty-five is a great round out here today. The wind is blowing, it’s tough, and he showed what kind of player he can be.”

In the individuals leaderboard, John Voetsch is in a tie for 20th at three-over 145 after a second round three-over 74. Spencer Ciesla is tied for 25th at four-over 146, following a round of one-over 72. Carson Jacobs is in a tie for 47th at seven-over 149 after shooting nine-over 80 on Saturday. Mills Rendell is tied for 51st at eight-over 150 following a second round four-over 75. Ryan Thornton and Will Snipes are tied for 69th at 11-over 153. Snipes finished the second round with a five-over 76, while Thornton posted a seven-over 78.

“We are going to be focused on 150 yards and in, and everything we do is going to be based upon that,” Limbaugh said. “Hunter (Stewart) has worked hard, and he’s put in the work, and that’s what I preach to them all of the time. I want to outwork every team in the country, and I want to be the best team in the country from 150 yards and in.”

Oklahoma’s Abraham Ancer is in the lead at seven-under 135.

The final round is set to tee off at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday.
