The Commodores track and field program returned to action on Friday night in the Commodore Invitational for the first time since Dec. 3. Today marked the first day of competition in the two-day meet with three Commodore athletes competing in Friday events. Senior Sarah Goodale and sophomore Erin Hardnett both won their heats in the 200m dash, placing 44th and 58th overall with times of 25.87 and 26.71 seconds, respectively. Goodale also competed in the high jump, recording a height of 5′ 3.25″. Senior Tierney Price also competed for the Commodores on Friday and finished 21st overall in the long jump with a mark of 18′ 0.5″.

New meet records were tied or set in seven different events in the third annual edition of the Commodore Invitational, as well as one facility record broken by Tennessee’s Shania Collins in the 200m dash with a time of 23.70 seconds. Here’s a full list of Commodore Invitational records tied or broken on Friday:


Women’s

Weight Throw: Jessica Ramsey (Unattached) – 76′ 5.75″

Long Jump: Filippa Fotopoulou (Alabama) – 20′ 9.75″ (Mark ties Julienne McKee’s mark from 2016)

200m: Shania Collins (Tennessee) – 23.70* (Also sets a new facility record)

5000m: Winny Koech (UTEP) – 16:34.98

Men’s

Pole Vault: Brannon Todd (Unattached) – 17′ 6.50″ (Mark ties Sean Collins (S. Alabama) and Darren Niedermeyers’ record from 2016)

Long Jump: Ventavius Sears (Western Kentucky) – 25′ 6.25″

200m: Teray Smith (Auburn) – 21.22
