EUGENE, Ore. — On Day Three of the USATF Outdoor Championships, Givaonna Meeks was crowned the USATF U20 Hammer Throw Champion.
Meeks entered the meet as the United States leader in the hammer throw among U20 competitors. On her first throw, she reached the 60.70-meter mark, 0.07 meters short of her personal best and the school record, which propelled her into first place. Her throw was almost five meters farther than the runner up. With that performance, she earned a spot on Team USA and will represent the United States in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, at the 2023 Pan Am U20 Championships.
Allyria McBride and Mya Georgiadis earned spots in the 400-meter hurdles final with the second- and third-fastest times of the day. McBride won her heat with a time of 58.45 seconds. Georgiadis earned second place in her heat, turning in a time of 58.87 seconds. Both Dores will run in the event final on Sunday at 5:38 p.m. CT.
The final day of competition in Eugene will begin at 5 p.m. CT on Sunday when Audrey Allman runs the 1,500 meters in the U20 division. Veronica Fraley will compete in the women’s discus at 7 p.m. CT, and volunteer assistant coach Joe Kovacs will compete in the men’s shot put at 8:15 p.m. CT. The meet will be streamed on USATF.TV+.
