Loyola's 3s Too Much for Vanderbilt

Scotty Pippen Jr. scores 23 for Commodores

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Visiting Loyola made 17 3-pointers Friday at Memorial Gymnasium to overcome Scotty Pippen Jr.’s 23 points in a 69-58 victory over Vanderbilt.

The Ramblers (9-2) made nine more 3s than 2s en route to the victory.

Pippen, who also had five rebounds, and his teammates shot a combined 13 of 39 from the floor in the Vandy’s third consecutive loss.

Vanderbilt (5-4) has the week off before hosting Austin Peay (4-3) at 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 18.

Loyola was steady in the early going Friday as it made four 3s to reach a 14-10 lead less than eight minutes into the game. Vanderbilt climbed back in front 17-16 with a Pippen steal and layup with 8 1/2 minutes left in the first half.

The Ramblers got back-to-back 3s from Saint Thomas and Braden Norris, respectively, to build a 25-19 lead. They held that six-point edge for much of the waning moments of the half until a Myles Stute layup cut it to 30-27 with 67 seconds on the clock.

Loyola would take that exact score into the locker room at halftime. The visitors shot 8 of 16 from distance and had eight assists on 11 made field goals.

The Ramblers grew their lead to seven with a corner 3 from Marquise Kennedy, making it 36-29 early in the second half—that was the 10th triple of the game for Loyola.

Vandy fought back to within 39-37 and 42-40, but Norris hit two triples in a row to make it a 50-40 game with 11:49 to play. The Commodores could not get any closer than seven points the rest of the way.

Norris led the Ramblers with 18.
