Loomis Collects Top-10 Finish in Vandy Debut

The sophomore ended the MartinFed Invitational in eighth place after carding 4-under 212

KILLEN, Ala. – Vanderbilt men’s golf sophomore Ben Loomis collected a top-10 finish in his collegiate debut, as he concluded the MartinFed Invitational in a tie for eighth place on the player leaderboard.

Loomis was one of three Commodores playing as an individual at Turtle Point Yacht and Country Club. The New Canaan, Connecticut, native ended the MartinFed Invitational with a three-round score of 4-under 212. Loomis began the event by shooting even par in Round 1, then would go on to card 2-under 70 in each of the final two rounds to end the tournament in a tie for eighth.

Fellow sophomore John Broderick concluded the MartinFed Invitational at 2-over 218. The Wellesley, Massachusetts, native ended his first tournament with Vanderbilt in a tie for 24th on the player leaderboard. Broderick shot a career-best 4-under 68 in the Round and posted scores of 73-77 in the final two rounds. Freshman Chase Nevins ended his first collegiate tournament in 57th on the player leaderboard. Nevis shot 3-under 69 in the second round.

The Vanderbilt men’s golf team will be back in action next week, as the Commodores head across the pond to play in the St Andrews Links Collegiate. Play will take place Oct. 23-25 in St Andrews, Scotland. Check back with VUCommodores.com for a full tournament preview.
