EL PASO, Texas — Vanderbilt senior Luke List set a tournament record by posting a first-round 62 en route to the lead after the first day of the 32nd Annual Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic at the El Paso Country Club.

List’s total score of 130 after day one (62+68) tied for the best opening 36-hole score, equaling the opening day shot by Ricky Barnes (63+67) of Arizona in 2000.

List is the defending champion of the Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic, having defeating Georgia’s Chris Kirk by one stroke a year ago. List will again be forced to hold off his rival on Tuesday, as Kirk stands just one stroke back with 18 holes to play.

A native of Ringgold, Ga., List carded only one bogey against 13 birdies and 22 pars. He opened up an early lead by birdying nine of the first 14 holes.

The Golf Classic, which features 28 of the nation’s top golfers, is played on El Paso Country Club’s par-71, 6,817-yard layout.
