OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – The Vanderbilt men’s golf team stands in 10th place after day one of the 2006 Olympia Fields Country Club/Fighting Illini Invitational. Senior Luke List is tied for 13th place at 5-over.

The 12-team field played 36 holes Sunday on Olympia Field’s historic North Course (par 70, 7,205 yards), with a final 18 holes scheduled for Monday.

List shot an opening round of 70 and stood in a three-way tie for the tournament lead after the morning round. He was still at even par through 13 holes of his second round before carding bogeys on his final five holes of the day.

Freshman Hudson Johnson scored the Commodores’ low round of the afternoon session, a 3-over par 73. Johnson finished the day in a tie for 21st place at 7-over.

Also scoring for the Commodores were junior Brett Lange and sophomore Jon Curran. They stand in a tie for 45th place at 13-over.

Junior Billy Whalen will be looking to rebound Sunday from his 20-over performance in the first two rounds. Last week at the Carpet Capital Collegiate, Whalen was 16-over going into the final round before posting a 1-under 71 to help the Commodores rally for a strong finish.

Purdue’s Tom Oliver holds the individual lead at 2-under par. Oliver is the only competitor in the field of 60 that stands under par after day one. In the team competition, Stanford (+15) holds a one-stroke lead over Oklahoma State. Duke, Purdue and Minnesota round out the top five.

Monday’s final round tees off at 7:30 a.m. CT. Live scoring is available on the Internet at http://www.golfstatresults.com/public/index.cfm?tournament_id=795
