Lange Wins Rudolph Cup

Brett Lange made a quick impression on his Vanderbilt golf teammates. The Atlanta newcomer captured the annual Rudolph Cup, the award that goes to the player who wins VU’s fall qualifying tournament.

“The team played six rounds over the Vanderbilt Legends Club and the Golf Club of Tennessee,” Coach Press McPhaul says.  “Those courses, as always, provided an excellent test.”

Lange’s winning total was an impressive 17-under par, capped by a six under 65 at the Legends’ Ropers Knob course.  He won by a comfortable margin over second place Luke List, the sophomore who was second at the United States Amateur last month.

Lange comes to Vanderbilt from Marist High School in Atlanta.  The 2002 Western Junior Champion, and AJGA All-American was the second alternate for the US Open at Shinnecock Hills last June.

Lange’s play in the Rudolph Cup was consistent throughout, with all six of his scores returned under par.  He is the third freshman to win the event, following in the footsteps of current team members Mark Donnell and Luke List.

The Rudolph Cup is named in memory of Craig Goodman Rudolph, the late son of Mason and Carol Rudolph.
