Lady Vols edge Commodores, 1-0

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A header off a corner kick in the 83rd minute proved to be the difference at the Vanderbilt women’s soccer team fell 1-0 at Tennessee’s Regal Stadium Friday.

Both teams missed on chances throughout the game, only putting a total of five of their combined 21 shots on frame.

The Lady Vols’ goal came at the 82:04 mark after UT had won a corner kick on the right side. Emily Shore’s service went toward the back post where Kylie Bono was waiting to head it home.

Each of the Commodores’ eight shots were taken by different players, with some of the more dangerous chances coming from defenders Katie Dean and Kate Goldin.

Coming into the game, Vanderbilt had held Tennessee scoreless in each of the past two meetings. The Lady Vols scoring drought lasted more than 268 minutes of game time.

The Commodores’ will look to break their own goalless streak on Sunday, traveling to Athens, Ga., to face the 17th-ranked Lady Bulldogs. The match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. CT start and will be shown nationally on ESPNU.
