FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Vanderbilt track and field team wrapped up the indoor season today at the SEC Indoor Championships. Senior Rita Jorgensen, along with the distance medley relay team, scored points for the Commodores, who finished 11th overall.
In the finals of the one-mile race, Rita Jorgensen placed third with a time of 4:47.60. Her time was just .31 seconds off the school record (4:47.29) set in 1992.
The DMR team of Jorgensen, Teegan Hill, Kristen Findley and Liz Anderson placed fifth overall with a time of 11:46.13, just .12 seconds behind fourth place.
Anderson also competed in the 3000-meter race, clocking in at 9:40.66. She just missed out on eighth-place by 1.87 seconds. In the 5000-meter race, Louise Hannallah placed ninth with a time of 17:10.52.
In the pole vault, Morgan Toone and Katherine Hendricks both cleared 3.65m.
“While we only scored in two events, we also just missed by finishing one place out of scoring in three events,” said distance coach Steve Keith. “Two of those ninth-place finishes were accomplished by freshman. These efforts will set a good tone as we open up the outdoor season in four weeks.”
Vanderbilt opens the outdoor season in Memphis at the Rhodes Invitational, March 18-19, before hosting the Black & Gold Invitational, March 25-26.
