Vanderbilt’s Joe Germanese was named to the 2005 Southeastern Conference Freshmen Academic Honor Roll today by SEC Commissioner Mike Slive.

A total of 469 freshmen student-athletes were named to the Honor Roll, including 40 student-athletes from Vanderbilt.  Germanese, a 5-10 forward from Ballwin, Mo. (St. Louis University School) was selected as the 2004 Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year.  He also was the only freshman from the MVC to be named to the College Soccer News Freshman All-America Team.  He was second on the team in points with 16, including five goals and six assists and scored two game-winning goals. He started in every game except one which was the final game of the season when a senior, who was being honored on Senior Night, started in his place.  He scored a goal and an assist in three games. He was named to the MVC All-Freshman Team and earned Vanderbilt PUMA Classic All-Tournament honors.  Prior to the season, he was listed on the College Soccer News List of the Top 100 Freshman to keep an Eye On. He was also named to the Top Drawer Soccer All-Freshman Second Team. 

The 2005 SEC Freshmen Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2004-05 academic calendar.
