Commodore guard John Jenkins displayed his excellent shooting touch to China in a big way on Thursday, leading Team USA with 24 points on 8-of-10 shooting in an 88-61 win over Chinese professional team New Century. Jenkins and his World University Games teammates begin play in the tournament on August 13.
After trailing by as many as eight points in the first quarter, Jenkins hit three straight 3-pointers during a 14-0 run in the second period to propel Team USA into the lead (see highlights below).
“This was a great experience for our team to come out here and play in this exhibition game in front of a crowd,” Jenkins said in a release from USA Basketball. “They came out strong and hit us pretty hard, and we had to battle back throughout the game. I want to thank my teammates for passing me the ball when I was open.”
