WINDERMERE, Fla. – Day one of the prestigious Isleworth Collegiate Invitational is in the books, with the Commodores ending the day in 13th position and sophomores Jordan Janico and Ben Fogler leading the way for Vanderbilt, with a pair of two-over par, 74’s.

The Commodores totaled a 303 on the opening day of play.

The event, which features seven of the top 15 teams in America, has California, ranked number one, leading the tournament with a four-under par, 284, and holding a four stroke-lead over second-ranked Texas, who shot an even par 288.

“We got off to a very slow start today,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “This is a course that keeps coming at you. However, I was pleased with how we didn’t give in halfway through the round. Ben (Fogler) played his last six holes at two-under, and that’s what we want to be about.

“We have to worry about the things we can control and we can control our mindsets and how resilient we are each day.”

Janico and Fogler are in a tie for 22nd on the individual leaderboard after Sunday’s play. Junior Charlie Ewing carded a 77 (T-50), sophomore Hunter Stewart a 78 (T-58), and freshman Zack Jaworski an 81 (T-70).

Michael Kim of Cal leads all individuals after his first-round 67.

The second round of the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational continues on Monday from the Isleworth Golf Club.
