Huebner and Derry earn PRs at day two of SEC Relays

Final Results

The inaugural SEC Relays in Baton Rouge, La. came to a close on Saturday afternoon and Vanderbilt got a good preview of what its competition will look like two weeks from now at the SEC Conference Championships.

Vanderbilt was led on day two by a pair of personal-best times by junior Megan Huebner and freshman Kendall Derry in the 1500-meter run. Huebner finished seventh overall with a time of 4:33.80 and Derry posted a time of 4:34.72, which was good for an 11th-place finish. Senior Courtney Kriegshauser also ran in the 1500-meter run and recorded a time of 4:45.17.

Senior Sarah Bell once again turned in an impressive performance for Vanderbilt and led the group of four Commodore pole vaulters with a mark of 13–4.25, which was good for fourth place overall. Freshmen Caleigh Lofstead and Margaret Ollinger both tied for 12th after clearing the bar at 12–2.50 and junior Megan McCabe rounded out the group with a vault of 11–4.50.

Senior Tierney Price finished in the top 10 in the triple jump with a leap of 38–9.

The Commodores competed in both the distance medley and 4×400-relays to cap off the meet for the weekend. Ginger Hutton, Becca Schulte, Maddie Criscione and Reagan Bustamante made up the distance medley relay team and earned fourth place with a time of 11:50.32. Schulte, Lydia Witty, Courtney Clayton and Kacie Breeding all ran in the 4×400-meter relay and finished ninth with a time of 3:51.97.

Team scoring was utilized using the seven team relays and incorporating the top team marks in the throws and jumps into the scoring as well. The scoring system combined the men’s and women’s scores together. Here are the final standings:

Vanderbilt will compete next weekend in Knoxville, Tenn. for the Tennessee Challenge on May 6 in one final tune-up before the SEC Championships in Columbia, S.C. from May 11-13.
