Hofmann Leads Reunion Intercollegiate

MADISON, Miss. — Vanderbilt sophomore Adam Hofmann holds a one-stroke lead after two rounds of the 2009 Reunion Intercollegiate, hosted by Ole Miss.

The field of 75 student-athletes will play the final 18 holes of the three-round event on Tuesday.

Hofmann is the only golfer under par through two rounds of play on Monday. The Pittsburgh, Pa., native shot a one-under 71 during his morning round to take an early lead in the event. He followed that with an even-par 72 in the afternoon to maintain a one-stroke advantage of Andrew Landry of Arkansas. LSU’s John Peterson and Ole Miss’ Sean Dale are tied for third at three-over.

The Commodores (+26) stand in third place as a team, only six strokes back of the pace set by LSU (+20). Arkansas sits in second place (+23). North Florida and Southern Mississippi (+36) round out the top five.

Blustery conditions prevailed on Monday, with winds gusting near 30 miles per hour and temperatures never reaching 60 degrees. Only five of 30 team rounds on Monday came in at under 300 strokes (+12), with Vanderbilt’s second round of 296 the lowest round of the day.

Senior Jon Curran and junior Hudson Johnson both shot over 80 in the first round, but would rally in the afternoon to shoot 71 and 73, respectively. Curran is tied for 20th going into the final round, while Johnson is tied for 29th.

Senior Tyler Matthews is also tied for 29th at 11-over, while senior John Ebert is tied for 50th at 16-over.

Tuesday’s final round starts at 8 a.m. CT. The Commodores are scheduled to begin play at 8:50 a.m. CT, leaving from the first tee with Arkansas and LSU.
