LEXINGTON, Ky. – Mallory Hitt recorded 3,099 points to finish in 15th place in the women’s pentathlon in the opening day of the 2009 SEC Track and Field Championships. The junior multi-event athlete was the only Commodore to compete Friday at the Nutter Field House in Lexington, Ky.
Hitt started the five-stage event with a season-high time of 9.55 in the 60-meter hurdles. Following the hurdles, Hitt leaped to a 5-02.25 in the high jump, placing 12th out of 18 competitors. The former Louisiana High School high jump state champion, best finish of the pentathlon Friday came in the final event of the night, the 800-meter run. Hitt’s time of 2:33.69 placed second in her heat and seventh overall.
The Commodores will return to the SEC Indoor Championships tomorrow for a full day of action at the Nutter Field House. Tomorrow’s competition will begin with the women’s weight throw followed by the men’s and women’s 60-meter hurdles preliminaries.
