Hahn Wins NCAA Regional High Jump; First Commodore to Accomplish Feat

BATON ROUGE, La. – Vanderbilt junior Josie Hahn became the first Commodore to capture a NCAA regional track and field title by winning the high jump Saturday at the Mideast Regional Championships.

Hahn cleared 5’10.5″ for the win and assure herself of competing in the event at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships June 9-12 at the University of Texas.

Hahn, the Commodores’ most acclaimed track and field athlete since national champion Ryan Tolbert, will now journey to the NCAA Championships as a competitor in both the high jump and heptathlon. Last year, she earned All-American honors last year with a fourth place finish in the NCAA heptathlon.

The last two weeks of competition have been rewarding to the resident of Clinton, Tenn. On May 14, Hahn captured her first conference title by winning the heptathlon at the SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Hahn, who holds team records in both the indoor and outdoor high jump, defeated SEC rival Jessica Johnson at the regionals.  Both cleared the same height, but Hahn earning the win based on fewer misses.  Hahn and Johnson were the only jumpers among 34 competitors to achieve 5’10.5″.
