Earns Indoor All-America Honors for Second Straight Year

Fayetteville, Ark. – Vanderbilt senior Josie Hahn tied for sixth in the NCAA pentathlon Saturday, earning indoor All-America honors for the second straight season.

Hahn accumulated 4,046 points to share sixth place honors with Virginia Tech junior Saskia Triesscheijn. The pentathlon was captured by pre-event favorite Ashley Selig of Nebraska, who scored a career high of 4,327 points to edge Brigham Young sophomore Amy Menlove. Hahn’s total was eight points shy of fifth placer finisher Amber Williams of Miami.

In claiming sixth place, Hahn joined former Commodore 400-meter standout Ryan Tolbert as the only Vanderbilt participants to score points at the NCAA Indoor Championships in consecutive years.  Hahn, a two-time outdoor All-American, earned indoor recognition last winter with another sixth place finish in the pentathlon.

Entering the 800-meter run, the last of five events included in the pentathlon competition, Hahn has work to do to join the top eight finishers. She completed the 800 in 2:19.26, securing enough points to overtake two competitors with slower times.

Hahn opened the competition with a 8.93 performance in the 60-meter hurdles, then missed an opportunity to make up ground in the high jump, even though she cleared 5’9.25″.  One year ago at the NCAA indoor pentathlon, Hahn used a school-record leap of 6’0″ as a springboard to establishing a second team record in the pentathlon with 4,076 points.

Hahn concluded the pentathlon with solid performances in the shot put (38’6.25″), long jump (18’3″) and 800-meter run.

Hahn, who finished second in the SEC pentathlon two weeks ago, got the best of SEC winner Beyonka McDowell of Arkansas at the national meet.  McDowell finished 13th overall Saturday.

Hahn also competed in the individual high jump at the NCAA Indoor Championships on Friday, finishing 19th overall.
