Hahn 16th After First Day of Olympic Trials Heptathlon 7/10/2004 Sacramento, Calif. — Vanderbilt rising senior Josie Hahn was 16th after the first day of heptathlon competition at the United States Olympic Trials. Hahn, a three-time All-American for the Commodores, accumulated 3,186 points after the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200-meter dash. She concludes the competition today with the long jump, javelin and 800-meter run. A former Commodore NCAA champion on the track, Ryan Tolbert-Jackson, advanced to the semifinals of the 400-meter hurdles with a 56.52 effort. She will compete tonight seeking to earn a spot in the hurdle finals Sunday. The top three finishers in each event will represent America at the upcoming Olympic Games in Athens, Greece. Hahn’s best performance Friday came in the high jump, where she owns both indoor and outdoor school records. She accumulated 991 points by clearing 5’11.25″. The effort tied for second best among the 24 participants. Hahn, seeded 24th entering the competition, fell behind in the competition after the first event with a disappointing 14.91 effort in the 100-meter hurdles. After getting back into contention in the high jump, Hahn finished the day with performances in the shot put (35’3″) and 200 meters (26.39)well off her personal bests. Tiffany Lott-Hogan, a member of the 2000 American team, is the leader after the first day with 3,686 points. She is followed closely by Georgia All-American Hyleas Fountain (3,659), Michelle Perry (3,634), DeDee Nathan (3,598) and Virginia Miller (3,594). |
