The Tennessee Relays started on Thursday morning and senior Sarah Goodale is off to a fast start, as she ranks second in the field after four events in the heptathlon with 3,109 points.
The meet kicked off with the 100-meter hurdles and Goodale ran a time of 14.20, which shed nearly half of a second off of her previous career-best time and was the third-best time among competitors. Goodale followed up that performance by clearing 5′ 1.75″ (1.57m) in the high jump, moving her up to second overall in the field, which she would maintain for the rest of the day. Goodale finished the day the same way she started it — with a pair of personal-best marks in the final two events for the day. She posted a throw of 36’10.25″ (11.23m) in the shot put and ran a time of 25.43 in the 200-meter dash. Goodale is on pace to break her career-best point total of 5,065 in the heptathlon, which already ranks sixth all-time in Vanderbilt history.
The heptathlon will get back under way tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. (CT) with the long jump, which will be followed by the javelin throw and then the 800-meter run to conclude the event. Here are the full standings through day one and four events:
