Commodores begin SEC play with win behind Ezra Manjon, Liam Robbins

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Both Ezra Manjon and Liam Robbins posted season-best point totals to lead Vanderbilt men’s basketball past South Carolina 84-79 in overtime at Memorial Gymnasium on Tuesday.

Manjon scored 24 points, sharing game high honors after going 8 of 13 from the floor and also making 8 of 9 attempts at the free-throw line. Robbins added 22 points, seven rebounds and six blocked shots as the Commodores improved to 8-6, 1-0 in the SEC.

Jordan Wright chipped in 13 points and Tyrin Lawrence scored 10, while Myles Stute led Vandy with eight rebounds and Quentin Millora-Brown also had seven. The Vandy defense limited the Gamecocks (7-7, 0-1 SEC) to 41.7 percent shooting overall and 31 percent from 3-point range.

Chico Carter Jr. matched Manjon with 24 points to lead South Carolina, who also got 18 points from Meechie Johnson, 13 and seven rebounds from Gregory “GG” Jackson II and 12 from Hayden Brown.

The Gamecocks missed a pair of shots—one which was blocked by Robbins—in the final seconds of regulation, but Brown made a layup before time expired to tie the score 67-67. Manjon scored eight points and Robbins had seven as the Dores never trailed in the extra period.

Vandy returns to action at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Missouri in a game that can be seen nationally on CBS.
