Before long, New Jersey track standout Jennifer Edobi will be wearing Vanderbilt attire. But next week, she’ll be sporting different colors.
Edobi, an incoming Vanderbilt freshman, is representing Nigeria at the IAAF World Junior Championships in Eugene, Oregon. She will participate in the 800 on July 22, and will also be in action as a member of the 4×400 relay team on July 27.
The IAAF World Junior Championships open on July 22 and continue through July 27 at historic Hayward Field, known as Track Town, USA. Many of the IAAF Championships winners of the past have gone on to be gold medallists at the IAAF Senior World Championships and Olympic Games.
Edobi, who will join the Vanderbilt roster this fall, recently completed an outstanding career at Union High in Union, N.J., including posting a career-best time of 2:08.21 in the 800 during the season.
She led Union High to a county title by winning both the 800 (2:15.20) and the 400 (55.86) and finished second in the 200 (25.20).
In the North Jersey sectional meet, Edobi placed second in the 800 (2:15.62) and the 400 (54.82), and was third in the 200 (25.08). At the Group 4 Championships, Edobi finished runner-up in all three events in 2:11.79, 54.21, and 25.47.
