Ford Tabbed All-SEC

Janie Ford is the first-ever freshman to win the pentathlon at the SEC Indoor Championships

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt track and field freshman Janie Ford was named to the All-SEC first team, the league announced Tuesday.

Ford, of Mobile, Alabama, won the pentathlon at the SEC Indoor Championships over the weekend, becoming the first-ever freshman to accomplish the feat. Her 4,373 points in the multi are a school record and the sixth-best score in NCAA Division I.  At the conference meet, Ford set personal bests in three of five events, the 60-meter hurdles, high jump and 800 meters. In the 60-meter hurdles, she clocked 8.30 seconds, which improved her standing in the program’s all-time top 10 to No. 6. With a clearance of 1.74 meters in the high jump, Ford is now tied for ninth in school history in the event.

She was also a member of the Vanderbilt’s scoring 4×400-meter relay, which finished seventh with a time of 3:32.72. The mark is ranked second in program history.

Ford and the Commodores are back in action March 13-14 at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
