Ford Named SEC Co-Freshman of the Week

Vanderbilt’s Janie Ford is the top-ranked long jumper in the SEC

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt track and field’s Janie Ford was tabbed SEC Co-Freshman of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.

Ford, of Mobile, Alabama, helped set two school records and registered two marks ranking in the program’s all-time top 10 at the Bob Pollock Invitational. The freshman won the long jump with a school-record 5.65-meter mark. She leads the SEC and is ranked fifth nationally in the event. Ford’s efforts also helped the Dores’ 4×400-meter relay team reset the program record with a time of 3:32.54, which is 16th in the NCAA. She also came within 0.01 seconds of breaking the Vanderbilt record in the 60 meters, clocking 7.38 seconds, and recorded a personal-best time of 8.44 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, which is tied for seventh in school history.

Ford and the rest of the Commodore track and field team will be back in action Feb. 13-14 when Vanderbilt hosts the Music City Challenge.
