Sims leapt up another spot in the school record book to start SECs

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Jada Sims leaped up another spot in the school record book to highlight Vanderbilt track and field’s first day of competition at the SEC Championships on Thursday at E.B. Cushing Stadium.

In the second event of the heptathlon, Sims recorded Vanderbilt’s best high jump in eight years with a clearance of 1.74 meters (5 feet, 8.75 inches) and finished fourth out of the 17 heptathletes in the event.

Sims (25:35) and Josephine Dal (26.18) each posted personal bests in the fourth and final heptathlon event of the day. With three events remaining Friday, Sims sits in 12th place with 3,150 points, while Dal is 16th with 2,842.

Madison Murray was one meter shy of her personal best in the javelin and finished 15th at 39.56 meters (129-09 ft.).

Nicole Anderson (2:11.91) and Emily Cohen (2:17.82) finished 18th and 26th in the 800 meters, while freshman Haley Bishop (24.15) was 14th in the 200 and senior Reagan Clay was 17th in the 400 hurdles with a personal best of 1:02.29.

With Sims in the high jump, the Commodore women have now posted 26 top-10 performances during this year’s outdoor campaign.

Competition resumes Friday at 2:35 p.m. The meet can be seen on SEC Network+ on Friday from 4:35-9:30 p.m and Saturday events can be seen live on SEC Network from 5-9 p.m.
