Nashville, Tenn. – Five more Commodores joined first round picks Dansby Swanson, Carson Fulmer and Walker Buehler over the final two days of the major league draft to make it eight Commodores selected.
Juniors Philip Pfeifer and Rhett Wiseman came off the board quickly on the second day in the third round with Pfeifer going 101st overall to the Los Angeles Dodgers and Wiseman going to the Washington Nationals at 103rd overall. Pfeifer joins Buehler as part of the Dodgers’ 2015 draft class. Wiseman joins former Commodore Taylor Hill in the Nationals’ organization. Hill is currently in the big leagues with the Nats.
Right-hander Tyler Ferguson was picked in the sixth round (168th overall) by the Texas Rangers becoming the first Dore to be selected by the Rangers since Steve Sadecki and Charles Sullivan were picked in the sixth and 27th rounds respectively in 1991.
Zander Wiel quickly heard his named called on the third day with the Minnesota Twins taking him in the 12th round (350th overall). Wiel joins former Dore Corey Williams in the Twins organization.
The Chicago Cubs selected draft-eligible sophomore John Kilichowski in the 39th round (1163rd overall) to make it eight Vandy Boys selected in the 2015 draft, the most since a record 12 Dores were taken in the 2011 Draft. Kilichowski is the first Commodore selected by the Cubs since Ryan Flaherty and David Macias were picked up by the Cubs in the first and 19th rounds respectively in 2008.
Eight Vanderbilt signees were selected in the Draft, including Nolan Watson and Triston McKenzie in the first round.
