Box Score | Black & Gold – Game 3
Nashville, Tenn. – Facing their seventh straight Black & Gold series loss on Sunday, the Black team used big performances from Tyler Ferguson and Ro Coleman to beat the Gold team 4-2 at Hawkins Field.
Early, however, it looked like the Gold team was back at it offensively with Dansby Swanson lining a double into the right-center field gap and scoring on Rhett Wiseman’s single through the left side with one out. But Ferguson rebounded, picking off Wiseman at first and getting Zander Wiel to bounce out to second base to end the inning.
Coleman immediately picked up Ferguson in the bottom of the first with a leadoff triple and scored on the next pitch on a sacrifice fly by Xavier Turner. Coleman was again in the mix in the Black team’s three-run rally in the third, driving in a run with a single before stealing second and home for the team’s second run of the inning. Chris Harvey capped the rally with a single to right.
Set up with a 4-1 lead, Ferguson went back to work allowing only Wiel’s solo home run over his final two innings to earn the win. Ferguson finished the day allowing two runs on three hits with three strikeouts. Adam Ravenelle worked a 1-2-3 final inning for the Black squad to earn his first save. Gold starter Walker Buehler was pinned with the loss after allowing four runs on five hits with six strikeouts over 4.2 innings.
Coleman and Vince Conde led all hitters with two hits each on the afternoon.
The series is set to resume Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. at Hawkins Field with the Gold team holding a two games to one advantage in the best-of-five series.
