Ewing shoots 2nd-round 68 to lead Dores

SEA ISLAND, Ga. – Vanderbilt senior Charlie Ewing fired a second-round 68 on Saturday to lead the Commodores at the SEC Championship in Sea Island, Ga., on the Sea Island Golf Club’s Seaside Course. As a team, the Commodores are in 12th place with a team total of 576 (288-288).

Ewing had four birdies and two bogeys in route to his 68 in his second time around the par-70, 7,005-yard Seaside Course layout. Ewing in his in a tie for eighth on the individual leader board heading into the final round on Sunday.

The Commodores also counted a two-over, 72, from junior Ben Fogler and four-over, 74’s from junior Hunter Stewart and sophomores Carson Jacobs and Zack Jaworski.

“I thought Charlie played really solid from start to finish today and managed his game well,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “Ben played solid on the back nine and really competed well.

“We have to understand that tomorrow is very important for us because it affects where we want to go. It is an opportunity for us to finish strong and gain some momentum heading into regional. We need all five guys having the right focus on the right things.”

Number-one ranked Alabama is the overwhelming leader after two rounds in Sea Island with a total score of 537 (272-265), 17 strokes better than second-place South Carolina. The Crimson Tide’s Bobby Wyatt, who carded a nine-under 61 on Saturday, is in the individual leader with a -14 under, 126 total after two rounds.

The Commodores will tee off at 9 a.m. ET off of the number 10 tee, and will play with Florida and Texas A&M in the final round.
