Vanderbilt senior on national catcher of the year watch list

NASHVILLE – Vanderbilt senior Ty Duvall has been recognized on the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Watch List presented by the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission, the organization announced Monday.

The list, which features 60 catchers, will be narrowed down to the semifinalists, whom will be announced May 19. Finalists will be announced June 3. The winner will be announced at the 23rd-annual Greater Wichita Sports Banquet on June 25.

Duvall was recognized on the coaches’ preseason second-team all-SEC. The Lebanon, Ohio, native helped the Commodores to a 22-1 record in his 23 starts behind the plate a season ago. He closed his season on a 14-game on-base streak, batting .280 (14-for-50) during the stretch.

In 15 appearances and 13 starts this season, Duvall is batting .313 (15-for-48) and ranks second on the squad with a .443 on-base percentage. He has matched Isaiah Thomas with four multi-RBI games and is third with six multi-hit performances.

Vanderbilt begins a stretch of 13 consecutive games in the state of Tennessee when it opens a four-game homestand at 5 p.m. Wednesday against Toledo. The contest can be seen on SEC Network Plus and heard on WNSR 560 AM/95.9 FM.
