NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt’s doubles duos were perfect on Day 1 of the June Stewart Invitational at Currey Tennis Center on Friday, sweeping action against Tennessee.
“I’m excited about the way we played in doubles against Tennessee,” Vanderbilt head coach Aleke Tsoubanos said. “We were aggressive, intelligent and enthusiastic with great energy on all three courts.
“As a team we really fought hard in singles against Auburn with four matches going to third sets so we certainly gave ourselves chances on every court. Holly Staff and Anessa Lee are impressing me every time to go out and are both getting better match by match. They are learning so quickly, are incredibly eager and such fierce competitors.”
After singles action against Auburn, Vanderbilt went to work in doubles play with Marcella Cruz and Amanda Meyer earning a 6-3 victory over Tenika McGiffin and Esther Adeshina. Shortly after in her first action of the fall season, Christina Rosca paired with Emma Kurtz to earn a 6-3 win over Carly Briggs and Daria Kuczer.
Closing things out, freshman duo Staff and Lee battled to a 7-5 win over Johanna Silva and Rebeka Mertena.

In singles play, Vanderbilt’s two rookies Staff and Lee earned the Dores’ two victories against Auburn with Lee topping Carolyn Ansari 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 and Staff beating Adeline Flach 7-5, 6-1.
Vanderbilt will continue the June Stewart Invitational on Saturday with singles play against Tennessee and doubles against Kentucky. Fans can follow the action with live scoring to by watching the live stream.
