Dores Set to Host Final Regular Season Meet

Vanderbilt track and field welcomes 22 teams to Nashville for the Music City Challenge

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt track and field will host 22 teams for its annual Music City Challenge on Friday and Saturday for the Commodores’ final meet of the regular season.

Teams competing over the weekend in Nashville include Alabama A&M, Alabama State, Arkansas State, Austin Peay, Belmont, Evansville, Indiana State, Jacksonville State, Life, Lipscomb, Maryville, MTSU, Murray State, Southern Indiana, Tennessee, UT Martin, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech, Troy, Vanderbilt, Vincennes, Western Kentucky and Xavier

Vandy’s busy outdoor season has yielded seven new program records as well as 26 additions to the school’s all-time top 10 lists.

The last time out, Lena Gooden reset her school record in the long jump for the second time this season, recording a win-legal PR of 6.31 meters to win the event at the LSU Alumni Gold. Later that day, the 4×400-meter relay squad of Faith Franklin, Josie Donelson, Mya Georgiadis and Madyson Wilson broke Vandy’s three-year-old record.

Vanderbilt is currently ranked third in the South Region and four event squads, 400-meter hurdles, high jump, 100-meter hurdles and triple jump, are ranked top 10 in the USTFCCCA’s Event Squad Rankings.

As the Dores look to postseason competition and the SEC Championships in May, 13 student-athletes are ranked top 10 in the conference in their respective individual events. Marta Sivina is No. 2 in the SEC in the heptathlon after her 5,665-point performance at the Joe Walker Invitational, while Gooden sits third in the rankings with an all-conditions long jump PR of 6.38 meters.

Action gets underway on Friday with the women’s javelin, which begins after the conclusion of the men’s competition that begins at 10 a.m. Running events kick off at 5 p.m. with the 100-meter invite prelims.

On Saturday, the program will recognize 21 graduating seniors at 12:30 p.m.
