NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt men’s golf team finished fifth at the DICK’s Collegiate Cup after Saturday’s play with a team score of 859 (280-285-294), with junior Hunter Stewart leading the way for Commodore individuals with a third-place standing and a three-round total of five-under par, 208 (65-71-72). The Commodores ended the 54-hole stroke play portion of the tournament as the fourth-best SEC squad, and will be matched up against the fourth-ranked ACC team, Duke, on Sunday for 18 holes of match play.

The Commodores carded a 10-over, 294, on Saturday in the final 18 holes of stroke play.

Georgia won the tournament with a final score of 20-under par, 832 (274-284-274), five strokes better than second-place Texas A&M. Georgia will be matched up against Clemson Sunday, while the Aggies will take on Virginia.

“I continue to be proud of the way we compete as a team,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “We got off to a shaky start, but hung in there all day and had a chance to post a good round this afternoon. We made a couple of mistakes as a team down the stretch that cost us a few strokes, but we will grow and learn from those mistakes. We are looking forward to playing Duke in the match play portion of the tournament tomorrow.”

After counting no higher than a 73 in the first two rounds on Friday, the Commodores had to count a 78 Saturday. Junior Ben Fogler led all Vanderbilt players Saturday with an even-par 71. Stewart shot a one-over par, 72, senior Charlie Ewing fired a two-over par, 73, and sophomore Spencer Ciesla carded a 78 to round out Vanderbilt’s counting scores. Freshman Matthias Schwab carded a third-round 79 on Saturday.

Individually, Texas A&M’s Ben Crancer ran away from the field with a three-round score of 197 (68-63-66).
