Dores lead Talis Park Challenge by 20 strokes

NAPLES, Fla. – The Commodores had a stellar day in the first two rounds of the Talis Park Challenge in Naples, Fla., shooting a four-under par, 572 (283-289) and taking a 20-stroke lead over the rest of the 14-team field on Sunday at the par-72, 7,025-yard Talis Park Golf Club. Senior Charlie Ewing leads all individuals at the tournament with a three-under par, 141, and all five members of the Vanderbilt team are in the top 19 on the individual leader board.

Vanderbilt leads second-place Wichita State by 20 strokes and third-place Notre Dame by 22 strokes. Ewing has a one stroke lead on Hugo Menendez and a two stroke lead on teammate Carson Jacobs (70-73, T3).

“We talked last night about being able to stay focused,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “It was really windy today and the greens were very quick. We talked to them about playing to our standard – staying focused, having the right body language, having the right mindset – just having the right focus on the right things.”

Jordan Janico is only three strokes back of Ewing and is in a tie for fifth after carding a two-round score of 144 (68-76). Zack Jaworski is in a tie for 10th with a total of 147 (74-73), and Hunter Stewart is in a tie for 19th with a score of 150 (77-73).

The Commodores are looking for their second team title of the 2013-14 campaign after winning the Osprey/Eagle Intercollegiate November 5 and 6 in Jacksonville, Fla.

The final 18 holes of the tournament will take place on Monday, with live scoring found on Birdiefire.com.
