Second Round Results

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – The Commodores fired a second-round team total 364 on Saturday at the Pebble Beach Golf Links and are in a tie for second place with the University of Georgia with a two-round score of 721 (357-364). Vanderbilt trails team leader Oklahoma State by nine shots heading into the final round Sunday.

Freshman Patrick Martin carded the team’s best round of the day, shooting a one-under par, 71. Junior Matthias Schwab and senior Zack Jaworski are the team’s leaders after two rounds, with each player in a tie for eighth with a total of 143.

“I’m proud of how we hung in there today,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “The wind really picked up on the back nine and I am proud of how we managed it when things got tough. Tomorrow will be another great opportunity for our team to grow because there’s always a lot to learn in final rounds.”

Oklahoma State shot the lowest round of the tournament on Saturday with a nine-under par, 351. The Cowboys currently have three players in the top eight, with Zachary Olsen leading the way in a tie for second.

Arkansas’ Alvaro Ortiz maintains the individual lead and is in the clubhouse with a five-under par, 139, after two rounds. Ortiz holds a two shot lead over Olsen.

“Patrick played another really solid round today,” said Limbaugh. “Also, Matthias and Jaws made birdie on the last hole which was big for our team heading into tomorrow’s final round.”

The third and final round of the tournament continues at Pebble Beach on Sunday, with tee times beginning at 7:10 a.m. PT.
