WINDERMERE, Fla. – The Commodore men’s golf team moved up one position on the Tavistock Collegiate second-round team leader board Monday after shooting a team total of five-under, 283, at the Isleworth Country Club in Windermere, Fla. Senior Matthias Schwab and sophomore Patrick Martin are each tied for third individually with a score of five-under par, 139, after the duo each fired a second-round 68 on Monday.

Vanderbilt trails first-place Florida by nine shots heading into the final round Tuesday, after the Gators shot a tournament-low 277 in the second round. The Commodores lead third-place Purdue by four shots.

Schwab and Martin trail individual leader Alejandro Tosti of Florida by four shots after Tosti carded a seven-under, 65, on Monday and has a total of nine-under par, 135 (70-65) for the tournament. Hannes Ronneblad of Texas Tech is in second place with a score of 137 (67-70).

Vanderbilt counted Schwab and Martin’s 68’s, sophomore Will Gordon’s 73, and 74’s from junior Theo Humphrey and freshman John Augenstein. So far in the tournament, the Commodores are second in par-four scoring (3.99) and par-five scoring (-11), and third in pars (115) and birdies (36).

“I thought today was a lot of fun and another good test with some tough pins,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “The guys did a great job of overcoming adversity. Patrick and Matthias played some really big rounds that really helped our team out. I am also very proud of Gordo and how he fought his way back after a tough start. We did a few things that kept us from having a really good day, but overall it was a solid day. Our focus will be on us tomorrow, controlling what we can control, and trying to be a little better version than we were today.”

The tournament, which features four of the top nine teams in the nation, concludes on Tuesday, with the Commodores teeing off with Florida and Purdue at 9:40 a.m. ET off of the first tee.
