JACKSON, Miss. – The Vanderbilt men’s golf team finished second at the Reunion Intercollegiate after shooting a 36-hole total of 592 (299-293) and a final round score of 293, which was the second best team round of the tournament. Sophomore Zack Jaworski led the Commodores with the best individual finish of his career, ending the event in a tie for fourth after carding a total of one-over par, 145 (73-72).

The scheduled 54-hole event was shortened to 36 holes due to a late start to the tournament on Monday because of rain and bad weather. The Commodores played 10 to 13 holes on Monday and finished the first and second rounds Tuesday at the Reunion Golf and Country Club in Madison, Miss.

Vanderbilt’s second-round 293 vaulted them up the team leader board to second place in very wet and tough conditions. The Commodores began the day in a tie for sixth. The Commodores finished four strokes back of team champion Mississippi State.

Carson Jacobs was next behind Jaworski with a two-round score of 147 (76-71), which tied him for 12th in the individual standings. Jacobs’ second-round 71 tied for the low individual round of the tournament.

“I am very proud of how we played today and how we competed,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “The conditions were very difficult and we handled it well. Zack and Carson really gave us two big rounds today that kept us in the golf tournament and gave us a chance to win. It was a great team effort. We are looking forward to preparing this next week as we head into postseason play, which I believe is the most exciting time of the year.”

Junior Ben Fogler finished in a tie for 22nd with a score of 150 (76-74), junior Jordan Janico carded a 152 (76-76) , while senior Charlie Ewing finished the tournament with a two-round score of 153 (74-79), which tied him for 35th.

Central Arkansas’ Pep Angles won medalist honors after carding a three-under par, 141, three strokes better than Ole Miss’ Blake Morris and Houston’s James Ross.

The Commodores return to the course April 25-27 at the SEC Championship in Sea Island, Ga.
