Dores finish 2nd at Carmel Cup

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – Vanderbilt men’s golf finished their opening tournament of the season in second place after dropping the Carmel Cup championship at Pebble Beach on Sunday at Pebble Beach Golf Club, 4.5 to 1.5, to the UNLV Running Rebels. Texas Tech defeated Arizona, 4-2, in the third place match.

The Commodores received their points from senior Charlie Ewing, who won his match over Zane Thomas, 6 and 5, and junior Ben Fogler, who halved his match with Taylor Montgomery. Two matches were won by UNLV, 2 and 1, (Kurt Kitayama over Zach Herr; Carl Jonson over Hunter Stewart), one 2 up (AJ McInerney over John Voetsch), and one match 5 and 4 (Chris Tuulik over Matthias Schwab).

Vanderbilt next competes at the Dick’s Sporting Goods Challenge Cup September 20-22 at the Golf Club of Tennessee.
