Dores finish 12th at NCI

Final Results

PORTLAND, Ore. –  The Vanderbilt men’s golf team finished the Nike Collegiate Invitational with a final total of 859 (283-283-293) and ended the event in 12th place in the team standings. Junior Matthias Schwab was the Commodores’ best finisher, carding a three-round total of 209 (69-69-71) and finishing the tournament in a tie for 16th individually.

Schwab and freshmen Patrick Martin posted the team’s best scores Tuesday, with each firing an even-par, 71. The Commodores also counted a 74 from senior Spencer Ciesla and a 77 from freshman Will Gordon.

“We didn’t play very good golf today,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “I thought our focus was good, effort was good, but we just made too many mistakes and didn’t do the simple things very well. Playing like this isn’t fun, but it’s a great opportunity for us to continue to learn and will help us reveal the character of this team. I know I sure like the way we compete and I know there’s a lot of room to get better so that’s exciting. We need to have the right amount of buy-in from everyone and focus on improving. We are looking forward to getting back to work this week and preparing for our final event of the fall.”

Wake Forest led wire-to-wire and claimed the team championship with an 823 (269-277-277), three shots better than USC. Individually, Texas’ Beau Hossler ran away from the field on Tuesday with a third-round 64 to win medalist honors by six shots over Duke’s Adam Wood.

The Commodores will tee it up for the final time this fall at another one of collegiate golf’s best events, the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational in Windermere, Fla., October 18-20.
