KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt women’s tennis commenced the Tennessee Fall Invitational with a clean sweep in singles play and eight doubles wins on Friday.
The Commodores won seven singles matches and followed that up with eight doubles victories. Anessa Lee, Holly Staff, Marcella Cruz, Dasha Korkina, Amy Stevens, Yufei Long and MaryAnn Rompf each won in singles.
Lee, Staff, Long, and Rompf all won in straight sets against their Illinois opponents. Cruz rebounded in her game after dropping the first set, 6-3, and defeated Josie Frazier, 7-5 and 6-2. Stevens took the initial game 6-2 and sealed it in the third 6-4.
Competition resumes Saturdays at 9 a.m. with singles play.
